The Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra have been consistantly entertaining audiences across Worcestershire with high quality performances of some fantastic pieces of music.

To enable more people to enjoy our music making, we have launched a new “Hear Us” section containing selected highlights from some of our recent concerts. We hope that you will enjoy relistening to extracts from works such as Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto (where Keith multi-tasks as conductor and soloist!) and Borodin - Symphony no.2 to name a few.

Now you have heard us play..

If you would like to know more about the people behind the music, please visit the “Meet Us” pages, or if you are a musician considering joining the orchestra please visit the “Join Us” page.

Recordings from future concerts will be added to the page, but if there are any special requests, or past performances you particularly enjoyed, leave a comment below and we will endeavour to find it from the archives

Chair’s Report from the Executive Committee Meeting: 22nd June 2010

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

We have finalised the programmes for next season apart from the Children’s Concert which will take place durng the afternoon of Saturday 20th November 2010 at Bishop Perowne School in Worcester.  Please put this date in your diary!

As soon as all the programmes and dates for next season have been finalised they will be published on this website.

This is a very exciting time to be a member of the Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra.   It was with immense pleasure and pride that I took part in the concert on Saturday 19th June 2010.  The orchestra is clearly moving forward under Keith’s expert guidance.  What is most significant for me is the atmosphere that Keith has created at the rehearsals which has had a positive knock-on effect at the concerts.   He has the rare ability to maintain a balance between challenging our musical skills and making the rehearsals a really enjoyable experience.  Thanks Keith!

My sincere thanks also go to the members of the committee.  They are fantastic team – even when the Chair has a moan.  My main gripe is about “sharing the load” but I am moaning at the wrong people.  The committee are the guys working their socks off to keep the orchestra going.  What we need is more support from you the “ordinary” members please.  Even if you feel you can only focus on one small task for each concert it would really ease the load.  Some of you I know are making very valuable contributions outside the committee.  Thanks to Sophie for example for fixing a 2nd Trumpet at very short notice.  Taking on the responsibility for fixing her “section” has helped tremendously.

Please consider becoming a member of the Executive Committee next season.  We are looking for three additional members  to “share the load”.  We would particularly welcome enquiries from sections of the orchestra  who are not represented on the committee at the moment – the woodwind for example.

Our first rehearsal for next season will be on Thursday 9th September at 7.30pm when we will taking on the challenge of the Britten’s Young Person’s Guide and some brilliant John Williams numbers (Keith’s favourite composer of the 20th century).  Can’t wait!

Have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you all in September.

Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra Performing at St George's Church WorcesterI don’t know about you but I had a great time on Saturday (20/03/2010)!

I remember feeling exhausted after some rehearsals on the day of the concert.  This time I felt relaxed but well prepared.  I really do think this is down to the expert interpersonal  and rehearsal management skills of our excellent maestro.

Thanks Keith!

PS Can I say how much I enjoyed the Elgar.  I know we are down on numbers (particularly 1sts and violas) but you all did a fantastic job!

I’m really looking forward to listening to the recording (and not just the slow movement of Tchaikovsky!).

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic concert (and the after-show curry wasn’t bad either).

Have a great Easter

Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra Launches new website

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Welcome to the new site of the Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra.

The new site is designed to be a repository for past, current and future information about the orchestra. There is a lot of archived material that hasn’t been seen for years which we are intending to publish. We also have a blog (which you are reading now!) where we can share any notable stories about the orchestra. Feel free to leave any comments in the boxes below.

Over the coming months we are going to be filling the archives with images, old programmes and history of the orchestra.

There will also be a members section launching soon where orchestra members can download meeting minutes, rehearsal schedules and discuss any orchestra issues with the committee.

To receive updates on the Orchestra’s concerts, please subscribe to our newsletter. Your email address won’t get shared with anyone else and we will only ever send a few emails a year, but it would be a great help to the orchestra if you could just put your name and email address in the two boxes on the right.

Thanks for Visiting
Nick Downton

WSO Appoints New Conductor

Friday, January 1st, 2010

It is with great pleasure that the Worcestershire Symphony Orchestra announce the appointment of Keith Slade as our new conductor and musical director.

After many years of growth under Richard Laing, it was a hard task to find a suitable replacement who could continue the hard work done by Richard. In Keith we have found an extremely exciting talent who will bring many new qualities to the orchestra.
